This position provides pickup and/or delivery services to and from donors, clients, and other community agencies through the application of safe driving and material handling procedures.
Working Conditions:
- This is a Full-time position.
- Working environment is typically in a program vehicle or storage/warehouse.
- The worker is required to drive at least 30% of the time.
- Regular local travel in and around the Trail area and surrounding catchment area will be required.
- Some scheduled overtime may be required, particularly during the Christmas season.
- The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness, concentration when driving and maneuvering cargo, use of fine motor skills, and moderate attention when reading equipment manuals (for safe operating instructions).
- The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of sitting for extended periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling.
- Required to regularly lift up to 39 pounds with no assistance from others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pickups and Deliveries
- Ensures the safe and careful handling of all pickups and deliveries using an assigned Salvation Army vehicle in a timely and secure manner.
- Loads and unloads goods at designated facilities.
- Communicates with the public in respectful and pleasant manner.
- Picks up supplies or runs any errands for the office as necessary.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
- Performs circle checks of vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to ensure equipment is in good working condition. Maintain program vehicle log and report any problems.
- Maintains complete and accurate records (mileage, fuel costs, issues encountered).
- Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
- Program vehicle must be clean with all personal items removed daily.
- Cleaning and sanitizing of supplies and equipment used.
- Maintains knowledge of legislative and organization policies such as health and safety regulations/policies, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
- Thrift Store Production
- Performs donation assessments and pricing
- Maintains a safe and tidy production space
- Cleaning and Sanitizing of supplies and equipment
- Other job-related duties as assigned
Managerial / Technical Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to: Community Ministries Director or Corps Officer(s)
- The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only with no direct reports.
- The incumbent may demonstrate work methods (not related to driving instructions) to new employees, volunteers, and/or students.
Financial and Material Management:
- The incumbent has responsibility for loading/driving of donated resources (i.e., food and toys)
- Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines. May handle cash/cards for fueling or grocery vendor card to purchase a list of supplies only. The driver does not decide on what to purchase.
- Does not process any financial transactions in the system with no budget planning responsibilities.
- Minor material responsibility for loading/driving of donated food and toys and occasional transporting of cash.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Valid British Columbia Driver’s License Class 5.
- Current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
- An original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Up to one year of prior related experience
