ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking four (4) temporary full-time Operator Trainees at the French Creek Pollution Control Centre (FCPCC) and Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre (GNPCC) in the Wastewater Services Department.
Under the supervision of the Senior Operator, the Trainees will perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks. These positions will require moderate physical effort and agility as well as an above-average mechanical aptitude in the Wastewater field. In addition to assisting their supervisor, the trainees' duties will consist of operations, maintenance and routine housekeeping of the facilities. The Trainees will be located at either the FCPCC or GNPCC and they must be available to work at either site as operationally required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include an Operator-in-Training (OIT) in Wastewater Treatment Certification with the BC Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP), or eligibility to write the OIT exam. In addition, applicants must possess knowledge of Safe Work Procedures, WHMIS, Emergency First Aid for Industry, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods; as well as, basic laboratory, electrical, instrumentation, pipe fitting, welding, and computer skills.
POSITION DETAILS
These are temporary full-time (40 hours per week) Union Positions, starting April 29, 2024, up to December 27, 2024, with the possibility of ending early depending on the operational needs of the department. The (2024) rate of pay is $29.60 to $31.16 per hour, plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays.
