Water Services - Field Operations team has an exciting opportunity for individuals with labouring and truck driving skills for seasonal work.  As a Utility Worker with Field Operations, you will perform semiskilled, heavy manual labour assisting in water, wastewater, stormwater or operational services. Primary duties include:
  • Perform heavy manual labour such as digging, lifting and shoveling.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of utilities.
  • Complete paperwork and forms related to specific tasks.
  • Utilize various hand tools and power tools to complete tasks.
  • Complete site restoration work and drive various sized vehicles.
 
Qualifications 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • 1 year of related driving experience, work experience with power/ hand tools and underground construction related experience will be considered assets.
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) will be considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver's License or Q (Air Brake) endorsement will be considered an asset.
  • Boom Truck operator experience (or journeyman certification) will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires applicants to hold safety as a value, as working safely is critical in all tasks performed and, in all decisions made.
Working Conditions: These positions are physically demanding, at various locations and work is done in all types of weather conditions.
 
Pre-employment Requirements
  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Applicants may be interviewed and hired throughout the duration of this competition.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to report to various city locations.
  • Applicants are asked to indicate on their resume the date they are available for work.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
 
Pre-employment Drug Test:An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $31.80 - 35.24 per hour 
Days of Work: Shifts vary to provide 24/ 7 coverage
for operations. Shifts are 9.5 to 12 hours in length.
Hours of work: Non-standard 38 hour work week
