2. Collaborates with designers across the College to develop brand elements and communication themes to support NIC’s strategic direction and communication needs.
3. Ensures all corporate communication materials deliver key objectives and portray NIC brand priorities.
4. Collaborates with designers and communicators across the College to develop and maintain NIC Graphic Design style guides, in support of institutional graphic design standards, policies and procedures which reflect consistent visual branding and communications.
5. Meets colleagues/clients to discuss project objectives and agree on a creative brief
6. Researches and develops new ideas and concepts in line with corporate guidelines and communications goals.
7. Works with Communications Officers to deliver projects, advocacy campaigns and publications.
8. Develops templates to support campaigns across multiple media channels and deadlines.
9. Provides design and style concepts.
10. Manages and maintains corporate communications archives (photo, video and project files).
11. Coordinates in-house and external print services utilizing full knowledge of the printing process (e.g. paper and ink specifications, preparing tender, pre-press file preparation and all stages of proofing).
12. Advises, implements and supports web, social media, email, and digital communication development.
13. Collaborates with internal partners to lead, develop, and manage integrated campaigns, media strategies and initiatives with the relevant analysis and context to support decisions and meet objectives outlined in college plans, monitoring their effectiveness and bringing forward any recommendations to the Director.
14. Provides input into software and hardware requirements needed complete their work, as required.
15. Adheres to agreed project deadlines and budgets and prioritizes workload to complete.
16. Conducts research independently and contributes as a team member in identifying solutions to both client specific and college-wide design needs.
17. Responsible for ongoing professional development in the field of web/graphic design to ensure knowledge and skills remain current.
18. Performs additional responsibilities and duties as delegated by the Director, Public Affairs and Communications.
- Diploma in Digital or Web Design, Graphic Design, Fine Arts in Communication, or a related field.
- Three years’ direct experience preferably in a Public Affairs, Marketing or Communications department of a post-secondary institution or the equivalent combination of recent experience and formal training in a similar environment.
1. Proven visual and artistic design skills and ability demonstrated in a current and quality portfolio.
2. Experience in communication design from graphic design concepts and practices to project management.
3. Understands the hierarchy of content, uses knowledge to develop effective marketing and communication materials.
4. Knowledge of commercial printing processes from design to pre-press production for all print types.
5. Experience producing high quality layouts in a fast-paced team environment.
Technical Skills
1. Fluency in current Adobe Creative Suite and industry standard programs related to graphic design and publishing.
2. Web design skills and the ability to edit and write HTML and CSS for their technical implementation.
3. Proficiency with presentation software and MS Office Suite of applications
4. Advanced level of knowledge of commercial printing processes from design to pre-press production including web presses.
5. Experience working with print shops and press operators.
6. Experience working with Bootstrap and WordPress is an asset.
7. Knowledge of SEO and website best practice and industry standards.
8. Video production and Photography skills considered an asset.
Communications Skills
1. Working knowledge of brand, marketing and communication concepts and practices.
2. Experience producing public affairs and communications materials, for a variety of media channels
3. Experience with web, print and production.
4. Ability to proof content using editorial style guides.
5. Ability to problem solve and identify correct vehicle to suit communication objectives.
