The Role:

Safety is the main priority and is the foundation of all decisions made while guiding. The expectation is that our guides present themselves in a professional manner, positively representing The Adventure Group (TAG) and adapting to the diverse needs of each group.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Start each shift by checking in with dispatch for daily information, ensuring uniform and equipment readiness.
  • Thoroughly prepare for tours, inspecting all equipment, including avalanche/fire gear and helmets. Fuel machines and perform visual inspections.
  • Welcome guests warmly at Cougar, setting a positive tone for a fun and safe tour, and providing necessary information.
  • Prepare guests by clearly instructing on the safe operation of RZR’s/snowmobiles, ensuring guests have everything needed for the tour, including proper clothing.
  • Stay vigilant about weather-related and terrain risks (loose rocks, muddy trails, ice, avalanche risk) and take appropriate actions.
  • Follow established safety, radio, and operating protocols.
  • Adhere to safety, evacuation, retrieval, and emergency response procedures during daily and/or weekly inspections.
  • Be familiar with and abide by organizational procedures outlined in The Adventure Group summer and winter mechanized guide manuals.
  • Provide feedback to dispatch on trail or base needs.
  • Escalate issues, concerns, or problems to the supervisor or dispatch in a timely manner.
  • Pay attention to details, such as keeping the site clean, and assisting guests and staff.
  • Check staff communication channels regularly for updates and information.
  • Contribute to TAG's dynamic team by assisting other team members and departments as needed.

Hill Shuttle:

  • Explain the hill shuttle process to guests
  • Follow all hill shuttle protocol including following proper speed limits
  • Ensure guests understand helmet and seatbelt safety
  • Addresses any weather related issues to ensure safety and comfort of staff and guests
  • Awareness of terrain risks (loose rock, snowy, icy or muddy trails) and takes appropriate actions to manage these risks
  • May be required to do trail maintenance, debris clearing, pruning, small repairs, washroom cleaning and other labour duties related to the maintenance of the zip lines, access trails or Cougar base

Key Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Maintain a valid, minimum 80-hour first-aid certification (i.e. Occupational First-Aid – level III; Outdoor Emergency Care – level III, or Wilderness First-Aid). In addition, all guides must carry a complete level 1 first-aid kit and a functional (i.e. charged) handheld radio with them on all tours in a radio pack.
  • Previous experience working in customer service required
  • Previous experience working in outdoor activities and/or adventure tourism an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License. Class 4 license is an asset
  • Previous experience with all-terrain type vehicles an asset
  • Be physically fit: able to lift up to 30lbs, be outdoors and on feet for majority of day in variable weather conditions, high degree of mobility and able to use both hands for physical work
  • Positive, supportive, respectful, attitude – with both guests and staff
  • Flexible and adaptable – every day is different; every tour is different. This role requires someone who is adaptable to changes
  • Flexible to diverse working hours – early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly – very important in ensuring guests have clear instructions, radio communication is clear and concise, and information is shared in a timely manner
