Job description

The Wisdom Council & Traditional Indigenous Wellness Coordinatorwill primarily be responsible to coordinate:

  • the development and implementation of an NHR Wisdom Council;
  • the coordination of land-based education and training at the NHR; and
  • support integration of traditional Indigenous cultural practices in the NHR.

Schedule may include evenings and weekends as required.
The incumbent must fulfill the requirements of the Criminal Records/Vulnerable Person, Child Abuse Registry check and
Adult Abuse Registry check, and adhere to all Northern Health Region policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education related to Community Development or Social services (combinations of education and
experience may be considered)
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Working knowledge of Windows based programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet
  • Must be of Indigenous Ancestry
  • Knowledge of Indigenous teachings, culture and tradition
  • Knowledge of the Truth & Reconciliation Calls to Action, MMIWG2S+ Calls to Justice and United Nations
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People
  • Understanding of traditional protocols and ceremonies in Northern Manitoba
  • Knowledge of how to work with Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • Knowledge of Cultural Safety and anti-racism
  • Knowledge of Health system to support integration of traditional medicine and healing within the NHR health
services
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset, preferably Cree, Dene or Michif
  • Respects and promotes a culturally diverse population
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to be flexible in-service delivery and prioritize work
  • Successful candidate subject to provide security checks in accordance with Security Checks for Employment
