As a Work Planner Estimator, you will work directly with business unit customers to ensure that they receive fabrication services that meet their needs. This includes gathering all the necessary information allowing you to formulate a plan of action to deliver on the request in a timely fashion. Primary duties include: 

  • Collect information on customer's fabrication needs and consider a variety of factors including scope of work, engineering specifications, shop processes, costs of materials and labour and cost-effective solutions.

  • Develop detailed project plans and schedules that include considerations such as input required by other employees, staff schedules, materials and identification of priorities.

  • Monitor and revise plans to respond to factors such as changes in priorities and unforeseen incidents and challenges and ensure that corrective action is taken to resolve discrepancies.

  • Act as a point of contact for customers by providing information such as project status and solutions to problems and by understanding issues such as business and customer needs and emerging technology.

  • Identify opportunities for Fleet Services to potentially provide additional services.

  • Maintain cost data base by entering and backing up data.

  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Analyze potential risks to projects and provide solutions that meet the needs of customers.

 
Qualifications 
  • A Journeyman Welder or Machinist Certificate and a Project Management Certificate with at least 5 years of manufacturing experience; OR

  • A completed 2 year diploma (e.g. Engineering Technology) and a Project Management Certificate with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience.

  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.

  • The ability to interpret and understand engineered drawings and weld symbols is considered an asset.

  • Success in this position requires strong analytical skills, quality orientation, technical proficiency along with the ability to work comfortably with a large and diverse team and the ability to influence without authority. 

 
Working Conditions: Frequently drives to job sites and regularly attends in the shop.
 
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Non-standard 40 hour work week
