Job description

Overview

The role of Specialist, Wound Ostomy acts as an expert consultant and advisor to the MGH Community including nursing and physicians in the treatment of ostomies, fistulas, and complex wounds. This role is integral to the leadership of care planning for wound care throughout the Hospital; developing and deploying evidence-based clinical protocols to support the best clinical outcomes for wound management; collaborates on wound care initiatives, research and outcomes to support program innovation and excellence in accordance with MGH mission and values.


Education

  • RN certificate of competence in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BScN required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Clinical Science or Community Health with a wound focus preferred.
  • CNA certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence.
  • Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOC) or International Interprofessional Wound Care Certification (IIWCC) preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant experience with wound and ostomy patient care in an acute or community nursing environment required.
  • Demonstrated expert with advanced knowledge of ostomy and wound care is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner using well developed leadership skills is essential.
  • Evidence of sound knowledge and skill with adult education techniques with previous experience providing education to patients, family, and Hospital staff is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other experts in education in the promotion of education to advance wound care essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and policy development and implementation is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, organized and self-directed with a focus on achieving operational goals is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill with regard to patient safety, change leadership, project management and evaluation is required.
  • Highly developed (written and oral) communication skills required; excellent presentation skills essential.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to think critically and focus on solution driven outcomes is required.
  • Proven experience in the planning and implementation of quality improvement projects.
  • Proven ability to facilitate ongoing staff development.
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal and conflict management skills required.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
  • Demonstrated MGH core service standards.
