Job description

The role of the IP Operations Specialist will be to support and maintain Xplore Business’s IP network infrastructure. This role will plan and execute configuration changes on equipment such as routers, servers, switches, and traffic management devices. This position acts as a prime technical contact to 3rd party service providers, project coordinators, and Tier 3 Member Support. This position involves participation in on call work, performing work in scheduled maintenance windows, and reports to the IP Engineering / Operations Manager and IP Operations Team Lead.

Key responsibilities include:

• Act as an operational project prime for IP related projects. This includes new technology rollouts, acquisition integration activities, testing new solutions, and acting as a prime for network readiness testing for all Network/IP integration tasks.
• Change Management - Act as a senior level resource on planning, performing, monitoring, and documenting network changes. Perform Network cutovers, software upgrades and capacity expansion. Write change requests, methods of procedures and acceptance test plans.
• Provide expert level support to the Tier3 Team for problems pertaining to IP network services and infrastructure. Provide expert level knowledge on Traffic management and analysis, and routing/switching protocols.
• Outage Management - Respond appropriately to critical outage events. This includes he coordination, communication, and troubleshooting of events in a timely manner from beginning through resolution.
• Documentation Management - Ensure all head ends and IP Operational processes are fully documented and updated regularly.
• Mentor junior team members, Tier3, and Tier2.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A minimum of 3 years related work experience (Preferably in an ISP environment) or a two-year College diploma from a related discipline
• 3+ years’ experience in network Operations or Engineering
• Experience with Network management systems
• Expert level understanding of IP networking, routing and switching, BGP, ISIS, MPLS, OSPF, VRFs, VPNs
• Expert level experience with servers, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Radius and VPN devices
• The ability to effectively problem solve & trouble shoot
• Excellent change management skills
• Experience with network monitoring tools (i.e. tcpdump, Wireshark, Nagios, Cacti, Splunk, Grafana)
• Experience with Traffic management policies and application shaping
• Professional Level Cisco Certification considered an asset
