Job description

Our Horizon Program is seeking a full time contract candidate for the role of Youth Care Counsellor.

Mountain Plains Community Services Society of the North (MPCSSN) is a non-profit, charitable society governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our Society has operated numerous diverse community and family-focused programs designed to address the unique needs of the Northwest region of Alberta since 1972. Currently, we offer services in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Alberta Human Services.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • The Youth Care Counsellor is responsible for working as part of a team to ensure the overall success of the youth and the program. The Youth Care Counsellor should have an understanding of basic counselling skills (ie. Informal Counselling) and Trauma based knowledge for an understanding of the youth that we serve
  • Develop appropriate relationships with clients and identify their uniqueness and individuality
  • Coordinate support services based on identified goals
  • Ensure clients physical, medical, emotional and other needs are met as identified (personal hygiene, grocery and personal shopping, medication monitoring and dispensing, medical and dental appointments scheduled as needed, etc.)
  • Promote physical and emotional safety for clients served
  • Provide emotional support and uses a variety of counselling skills as required
  • Complete timely documentation (daily client logs, communicating support plans with the team, monthly progress reports, administrative documentation responsibilities, etc.)
  • Ensure all household documentation is completed with input from individuals served (meal plan calendar, monthly programming calendar, chore charts, etc.)
  • Will understand the importance of being a strong advocate for clients and will advocate on behalf of the client in all necessary situations
  • Implements the MPCSSN Culture Code in their daily activities (Make an Impact, Commit to Continuous Growth, Cultivate Authentic Experiences, Take Ownership & Pride, Celebrate All Wins)

Must have:

  • Proof of Degree or 2 Year Diploma in Child and Youth Care, or related human services field.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Driver’s Abstract
  • Clear Criminal Records Check
  • Clear Children’s Service Intervention Record Check.
  • Vehicle Insurance stating $2 million liability and access to a vehicle
