About the role:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally sensitive emotional and psychosocial support to children and youth living on a first Nations Reserve.
Organize developmentally appropriate activities and programming to children.
Supervise children and youth in before and after school programming as well as during professional development days (P.D. Days).
Be a role model for youth by living a healthy lifestyle, encouraging physical activity, continuing education, and learning essential life skills.
Maintain confidentiality when handling information relating to children, youth, and their families. Comply with legislation related to suspected cases of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment of minors.
Show compassion for children with developmental delays or cognitive challenges. Engage in developmentally appropriate activities that spark their interest.
Assist with personal care such as toileting, if required.
Required Qualifications
Child and youth worker (CYW) certificate OR registration as a Registered Early Childhood Educator (R.E.C.E).
CPR certificate.
Clean criminal reference check with vulnerable sectors (or ability to obtain).
Experience working with marginalized youth or on first Nations Reserves.
Adaptability and willingness to work a flexible schedule of days/evenings in accordance with programming needs.
Experience creating age-appropriate activities and programming for children and youth of various ages.
Valid, unrestricted driver’s license in home province.
