Hours of Work Monday to Friday. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary as there may be the
occasional requirement to change shifts, adjust work hours and attend
functions outside of normal work hours.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The City of Dawson Creek invites applications from administrative professionals to provide shift
coverage, peak workload assistance, or project work as an exempt Clerical Support Clerk. This casual
position will undertaking a wide variety of administrative tasks in a busy and complex office environment
by providing support to the Corporate Administration, Human Resources, and Safety departments.
KEY DUTIES PERFORMED:
1. Maintain schedules, confirm meetings and appointments, answer phones and provide general
support to visitors.
2. Assist management in daily administrative tasks maintaining a high degree of discretion and
confidentiality.
3. Typing correspondence and assisting with assorted document drafting, organize files and keep
records.
4. Arrange travel schedules and make reservations as required.
5. Maintain inventory of supplies, place orders for new supplies and office equipment.
6. Coordinate special events and projects (e.g: Conferences, Trade Show Booth, Annual Fall Fair Tent
Event and Municipal Elections support etc.).
7. Coordinate the design and production of publications (e.g. the City’s Annual Report).
8. Participate in other ongoing projects as directed.
9. Provide support and coverage for clerks, such as coordinating meetings, recording meeting minutes,
preparing agendas and correspondence and record management duties.
10. Maintain courteous and positive public relations with customers, including residents of the
community, representatives of organizations and other municipalities.
11. Deliver quality customer service to both external and internal clients.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:
1. A minimum of two years administrative/office experience.
2. Completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent.

3. Completion of an Applied Business Technology diploma or equivalent.
4. Accurate typing skills at a speed of 60 WPM.
5. Efficiency in computer usage and in particular the Microsoft Office Suite.
6. Ability to prioritize multiple directions (Mayor, Council, Chief Administrative Officer, Department
Heads and Department Deputies) and work under pressure with minimal supervision to meet
deadlines.
7. Criminal Record Check required.
8. The ability to perform all the duties outlined above in a safe manner following established Facility
Procedures, Occupational Health and Safety rules, Violence in the Workplace policies and W.C.B.
regulations, i.e. WHMIS, T.D.G.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
1. Knowledge of, or experience in, a municipal setting.
2. A working knowledge of relevant Local Government legislation (e.g. Community Charter, Local
Government Act, etc.)
