The Budget and Reporting Branch of the Ministry of Environment requires an energetic and motivated individual to provide accounting services to the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Parks Culture and Sports through a shared service agreement. This position will report to the Manager in the Financial Policy and Reporting unit in the Budget and Reporting Branch and will use their knowledge of accounting to prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards.
As a key member of the accounting team, this position is responsible for maintaining the capital asset records for the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Parks Culture and Sports including preparing entries for asset additions, transfers, disposals, depreciation, and work-in-process in the Midas fixed asset module. This position tracks all employee entitlements, advances, cash floats, inter-ministerial transactions and reimbursements for both ministries and prepares the required entries to maintain accurate financial information.
You will have a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with a team. You will have strong skills in the use of Excel, Word, and accounting software. You will be able to communicate effectively to provide instructions to ministry staff related to your assigned duties and to respond to audit inquiries. You will be flexible, and proactive and show initiative when working in an environment with high volume and strict deadlines.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a degree in accounting or working towards a professional accounting designation or related experience. Experience dealing with government revolving funds and knowledge of government financial processes would be an asset.
