Description
This position reports to the VP Finance and is primarily responsible for supporting the Senior Accounting Technician and other members of the accounting department with day-to-day tasks. This includes data entry, various reporting functions including internal and external reporting, inputting data in the general ledger, and other duties.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITY
- Process accounts payable including data entry of invoices, cheque production, and e-transfer production
- Maintenance of supplier/vendor information in the financial accounting system including adding new vendors and/or amending existing vendor information as directed
- Data entry of various general journal entries into the financial accounting system and reviewing for accuracy prior to and after posting
- Reconcile corporate accounts and ministry funding accounts, and allocate costs as needed
- Identify problems in data or processes
- Input given information into general ledger and run general ledger reports
- Produce reports for month end, year-end or ad hoc as required or requested
EDUCATION
The minimum relevant knowledge or formal training essential to perform the functions of this position is a one-year post-secondary certificate or equivalent with an accounting focus. A two-year diploma or equivalent would be considered an asset. The education required for this position would typically provide knowledge of accounting functions, basic business communications, and computer applications.
EXPERIENCE
The minimum amount of practical related experience required to perform the duties of this position is one year. This experience would typically provide skills required to complete a total fiscal year of an accounting cycle as well as communication and interpersonal skills. Experience working with payroll systems is considered an asset. Must have the ability to function in a cross-cultural environment.
