Accounting co-op student (8 months)
Responsibilities:
- Support the Financial Reporting team in their monthly, quarterly, and annual filings
- Prepare, update, and maintain periodic financial reports within Excel
- Assist with the preparation of consolidation journal entries
- Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis projects requested from other departments
- Assist in the documentation of financial tasks and processes
- Assist with ERP validations and system implementations
- Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using existing West Fraser processes
- Other duties as required
- Undergraduate pursuing a degree in Accounting to pursue their CPA designation upon graduation.
- Completion of Introductory Financial Accounting courses and working towards prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
- Possess a general understanding of accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Proficient in MS Office suite (specifically Microsoft Excel).
- Keen interest in financial analysis and desire to learn new financial concepts.
- Quantitative and analytical abilities are required.
- Strong communication skills and experience working in teams.
- Previous accounting-related office experience is considered an asset.
- A collaborative, high-energy, team-based experience focused on the mentoring development of an aspiring CPA in a co-op program.
- First-hand experience working alongside CPAs in the Financial Reporting department of a multi-national company listed on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges.
- Exposure to working with cross-functional teams from other departments.
- Practice your indirect influence skills as you coordinate tasks and consolidate data from multiple sources and departments.
- The role receives guidance and direction from the Senior Financial Analyst of the Financial Reporting team with opportunities to work with the Financial Controller and Manager of Financial Reporting.
- The annual salary range for this position is usually between $39,000 and $44,000, depending on skills and experience.
