With initial assistance from senior members of the tax and accounting team, primary responsibilities include:
- Reviewing financial models of substantial infrastructure projects to ensure the modelled forecast financial statements and tax calculations are in line with the applicable accounting standards and tax legislation.
- Where such projects are located outside of the UK and Canada, working with local advisors in that relevant jurisdiction to ensure that the model is in line with the applicable overseas accounting GAAP and/or overseas tax legislation.
- Communicating written issues arising from your review to the underlying client in a formal report.
- Providing tax and accounting input to assist the Operis Analytical team in building financial models that are in line with applicable accounting standards and tax legislation.
- Once more established within the tax and accounting team, assist with tax and accounting advisory mandates.
- Provision of tax and accounting analysis to internal staff.
- Supporting the Advisory team's work on tax and accounting questions as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Candidates must have CPA designation (or equivalent), and would typically be a recently qualified CPA, in addition to a Bachelor's or Master's Degree and experience in providing accounting advice to clients in a corporate or public body context. CTP designation would be beneficial, but is not required, as training in tax will be provided and, once established within the tax and accounting team, there would be an opportunity to study for a tax qualification.
Other skills that are required are:
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain ideas and concepts to non-specialists.
- Strong project management and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant and common software programs.
