Job Summary
The Welland Museum is seeking an individual for the position of Acting Curator. They will report to the Executive Director while working as part of a team. The successful candidate will assist with the delivery of museum services. This includes all functions related to the operation of a community museum: exhibit creation, collection management, educational programming, marketing, social media creation, research, and collection of historical data.
Wage: $20/Hour

Hours: 37.5 hrs/week, Monday – Friday, with occasional Saturdays, 9:00-5:00 pm.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Museum Curator is responsible for assisting in the delivery of museum services, including:
- Creation of meaningful exhibitions; including updating permanent exhibit themes and interactive components as needed, ensuring the preservation of our community’s heritage.
- Assists with care and management of the collection while observing conservation standards and best practices for cataloguing, database management, exhibition, and storage.
- Assists with the development and delivery of educational children’s programs and activities, aligning to school curriculum when possible.
- Assists with the development and management of community programming and adult workshops with a thought to the changing needs of our residents.
- Assists with marketing and public relations using a variety of media including digital and print.
- Assists with the coordination and execution of public events.
- As directed, opens and closes the museum, manages admissions and sales, provides information to visitors and tourists, and performs a limited scope of minor maintenance duties.
- Demonstrates cultural competency, and is able to provide service to, and work with, a diverse array of visitors and community partners.
Education
- Completion of a Three-year Post-Secondary School Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree.
- Preference given to a background in Museum Studies but will accept any combination of education related to history, anthropology, archaeology, marketing, communications, culture, indigenous studies, public relations, or event planning.
Competencies
- Superior communication, time management, and organizational skills required.
- Able to manage assigned work, including larger projects effectively and independently.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local history and culture, including that of the local indigenous community, a definite asset.
- Proficient in the use of common office software applications.
- Proficiency in the use of common social media applications and web-based applications.
- Proficiency in the use of desktop publishing and image editing software applications, an asset.
- Proficiency in PastPerfect or CatalogIt is an asset.
