Parkland School Division (PSD) is a large progressive school jurisdiction serving Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Chipewyan and Parkland County. PSD meets the diverse educational needs of over 12,000 rural and urban students among 23 sites, including outreach schools and alternative education programs.

Upcoming Principalship Opportunity:

We are currently seeking candidates to apply for an Acting Principal position at Tomahawk School for a one year Term Designation for the 2024-2025 School Year, with a possible extension into the 2025-2026 School Year.

About Tomahawk School

Tomahawk School is located in Tomahawk, Alberta, a small hamlet in Parkland County situated in the rolling hills approximately 20km south of Highway 16, approximately 10 minutes from the western shores of Wabamun Lake. Tomahawk School is a safe and caring school dedicated to academic achievement and the positive personal development of children. The school offers unique features like a large outdoor space for activities including Nature-Based Learning, and a beautiful playground. Approximately 100 students attend Tomahawk School, which allows an offering of smaller classes and more personalized learning for each student. The school emphasizes an atmosphere of belonging and a sense of family for all students, staff, and community members. The school recently added myPATH Outdoor Pursuits to its program offerings providing students with enhanced learning opportunities in partnership with community organizations, who specialize in the areas of physical education, arts, technology and health. Tomahawk School will also see a major renovation to its gymnasium increasing capacity from 200 to 300 square metres. The project will also include replacing all sports equipment fixtures, the entire wood floor, a new ceiling, lighting and paint throughout the facility and one storage room added.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide instructional leadership to our teaching teams to support the continued development of engaging learning environments for students, which includes effective assessment practices and activities that support student growth in Citizenship and Social Responsibility.

Collaborate with staff, parents, students and administrative teams from Parkland School Division to plan for the delivery of quality programs that are responsive to our students.

Manage and organize school routines and procedures that ensure a safe and caring school community.

Demonstrate creative, visionary leadership that assists our school community to provide meaningful, relevant educational opportunities.

Qualifications:

As the successful candidate, you are a creative, energetic and passionate leader with a Masters Degree in Education (or other related degree), valid Alberta teacher certification and Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) Certification (achieved, in progress, or willing to complete in the required timeline). You have previous administrative experience, and a history of ongoing professional and personal development to support an instructional leadership role.
