POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Implements the planned program of social and recreational activities for the clients of the Adult Day Program in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist and other members of the Adult Day Program team. Provides personal care for clients such as assisting clients with meals, toileting, dressing and ambulating. Works within the framework of Continuous Quality Management (QM), HHHS philosophy, policies, procedures, standards and applicable legislation. This position will be scheduled to work 5 days per week (ex. 8:30am – 2:30pm, 10:30am – 4:30pm) to ensure appropriate coverage for clients throughout the day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Personal Support Worker Certificate
- Preference given to those holding a Certificate in Activation Techniques in Gerontology and/or working with dementia
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) training and Montessori Methods for dementia an asset
- Experience in working with older adults, persons with Alzheimer Disease or dementia and adults with physical disabilities
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification
- Possession of a valid driver’s permit and availability of a vehicle
- Commitment to ongoing education
In addition, the successful candidate must be available to work day, evening and weekend shifts as required. An ability to attend work on a consistent basis is also a requirement.
