Job description

Position Summary - Reporting to the Lodging and Guest Experience Manager and maintaining a strong hospitality focus, you will oversee the planning, development, and execution of engaging recreational programs for guests of all ages and interests. As the Activities Coordinator, you will play a vital role in enhancing the guest experience and ensuring their stay is filled with unforgettable adventures and memories.

Pay for this position is $22.50 per hour.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a diverse range of recreational activities and programs suitable for guests of all ages and interests, including but not limited to outdoor excursions, sports tournaments, arts and crafts sessions, and educational workshops.
  • Oversee the process of hiring or otherwise providing all required equipment or gear, to support our guests full participation in any given event or activity. Ensure adherence to all required compliance procedures, including full completion and retention of any waivers, etc.
  • Collaborate with department heads and staff to ensure seamless coordination and execution of activities, adhering to safety protocols and guest satisfaction standards.
  • Manage and maintain an activities calendar, ensuring that activities are appropriately scheduled and promoted to maximize guest participation.
  • Collaborate with the Lodging and Guest Experience Manager and the marketing team to promote activity offerings through various channels, including the resort website, social media platforms, and promotional materials.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of activity programs to assess guest feedback, attendance levels, and overall effectiveness, making adjustments and improvements as necessary.
  • Supervise and support activity staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback as needed.
  • Develop and manage the staff roster, ensuring adequate coverage for all scheduled activities and events.
  • Monitor and track revenue generated from activity bookings, comparing against budgetary targets and identifying opportunities for revenue optimization.
  • Maintain inventory of activity equipment and supplies, coordinating procurement and replenishment as needed.
  • Uphold a high standard of customer service, promptly addressing guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests related to activities and programs.
  • Stay informed about local attractions, events, and recreational opportunities in the surrounding area, recommending and arranging off-site excursions for interested guests.
  • Participate in executing the activities/activity schedule with the activities team.
  • Enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance standards to ensure a safe environment for all staff and guests.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the resort's health and safety program, including the implementation of policies and procedures to promote a safe working environment for all activities staff.
  • Stay informed about relevant provincial and federal health and safety legislation, including WorkSafeBC regulations, and ensure full compliance with all requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment, facilities, and work areas, identifying and addressing potential hazards promptly.
  • Investigate and report any workplace incidents or near-misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Serve as a role model for safety-conscious behavior, promoting a culture of accountability and responsibility among activities staff. Represent activities at the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Co-operate and accept other assignments as and when required.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality or tourism industry strongly preferred.
  • Proven supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team of staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with guests and colleagues of diverse backgrounds.
  • Creative and innovative mindset, with a passion for designing engaging and memorable guest experiences.
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreational activities, safety protocols, and equipment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and reservation management software.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Committed to delivering high-quality results within established timelines.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and/or evenings when required to meet the needs to the activities program.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Current First Aid (OFA 1) and WHMIS preferred, or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
