Position Title: Addictions Counsellor
Overview
Newgate 180 is growing and on the move! As a result of our recent growth, we are looking for an experienced Addictions Counsellor to join our team.
Newgate 180 is one of Canada’s pre-eminent addiction rehab centres with a history of success dating back nearly 50 years. We have successfully treated over 5000 people and helped them overcome their addiction and lead fulfilling and happy lives.
Located just a 30-minute drive from Ottawa in beautiful Merrickville overlooking the historic Rideau Canal, our Men’s and Women’s Centres offer rehabilitation services to working adults ages 25 to 75 from all over Canada. Primary Duties
This professional will be responsible for delivering counselling services to both male and female clients. They will work closely with and under the supervision of our Executive Director and Program Director.
Their primary duties will include:
- Conducting client assessments and developing individual treatment plans for the community phase portion of our program.
- Facilitating group counselling sessions.
- Providing individual counselling to clients.
- Maintaining ongoing follow-up contact with clients, families and employers/unions.
- Completing documentation and charting according to our professional standards.
- Providing family support counselling.
- Preparing final reports and correspondence with employers and family members.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Program Director.
Key Qualifications
1. A university degree and/or college diploma from a recognized post-secondary school in the social services, addictions counselling, mental health counselling. Professional Certification or Registration is an asset.
2. Excellent Communications and Computer skills.
3. Excellent Leadership and Conflict Negotiation and Resolution skills.
4. An empathetic manner and exceptional listening skills.
5. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
6. Knowledge and experience in group counselling.
7. Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in an addiction and or mental health treatment setting. Experience in relapse prevention is an asset.
8. Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate from St. John Ambulance or equivalent.
9. Valid Vulnerable Sector Criminal Background Check.
Compensation Package
Newgate 180 offers an exceptional compensation package to the successful candidate, including:
1. Base Salary: $22.40 - $31.31 per hour depending on experience, based on a 37.5-hour work week.
2. Full-time, permanent employment after the successful candidate completes a probationary period of six (6) months.
3. Paid Sick Leave (as per our collective agreement).

Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (total 37.5-hour week)
