Job description

This is a 12-month mandate in one of the Oxfam offices in Africa (Benin, Ghana or Senegal)

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in 14 countries and 3 regions over a seven-year period (2020-2027).

The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in developing countries in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable development initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything it does.


Here’s what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with the Oxfam team members, you will have the following tasks:

  • Provide technical support in programme design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with teams to organize country and regional learning and support the process of convening learning events.
  • Work with team members to embed program quality in Oxfam’s ways of working in the Sub Sahara region.
  • Work with teams to design the program quality capacity building plan, implementing capacity building initiatives and mobilizing resources for training and coaching.
  • Participate in the integration of gender and feminist principles in programming and devise a system that monitors the integration process.
  • Collaborate with team members in coordinating multi-country studies to generate information for cross country learning and influencing.
  • Promote learning, best practices, and knowledge sharing within Oxfam in Africa, and across the confederation.

For this mandate you must:

  • Have Canadian citizenship or permanent residence in Canada,
  • Possess a university degree in social sciences, program management, monitoring and evaluation, or any relevant fields,
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation of emergency and/or development projects/programs,
  • Have proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative survey methods with ability to use data visualization tools like PowerBI,
  • Have experience in training in monitoring and evaluation and in facilitating learning reviews and generating learning for programme improvement,
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills, data quality assessments, data analysis using statistical software including at least one of the following: SPSS, EViews, or Stata,
  • Know feminist MEAL principles (an asset),
  • Be able to work in multicultural environment,
  • Be fluent in English and French, spoken and written, with excellent report writing and review skills (required),
  • Master the Microsoft Office Suite, Skype, MS-TEAMS and Zoom.

    • 20% increase in the living allowance for one accompanying
      child (maximum of 2 children)
    • $1,500 CAD per year/child for school fees

  • A volunteer support program during your term and up to two months after your return to Canada
