Overview:

Reporting to the Operations Manager for the Southern Alberta Aggregate Division, the Aggregates EIT would provide operational, sales and technical resource support for the Southern Alberta Aggregates Team. This is a developmental role and an opportunity to gain widespread expertise within the Aggregates business with the ultimate goal of building a long-term career with Lafarge.

Responsibilities:

Technical support for all areas of the business including:
  • Operations
  • Sales & Estimating
  • Quality Control
  • Project Management
Examples of responsibilities may include:
  • Serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors
  • Assist area management in planning, coordinating and supervising production activities
  • Validate and match physical inventories
  • Data entry for production entries in SAP (plant and production reports)
  • Work closely with managers and foremen on pit and plant optimization
  • Participate and support foremen regarding safety and production tracking and targets
  • Participate in monthly meetings outlining improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate with sales, project managers, quality control personnel, and plant production on project details, scheduling, and problem resolution
  • Assist in developing strategies and objectives for sales, pricing and profitability
  • Carryout plant and site inspections for quality assurance
  • Assist structural and slope inspections for identifying potential hazards
Relationships with Others Jobs:
  • Works closely with Operations Manager, Land Manager, Area Managers, Equipment Manager, Mining Engineer and Foremen
  • Liaisons with Management, Environment, Safety, Finance and other departments.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Recent graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Interest in a long-term career in business, engineering, and construction with a goal to pursue P. Eng. or CET designation.
Experience & Skill Set:
  • Strong computer technical aptitude to learn new systems and programs
  • Ability to make rational decisions and resolve conflict
  • A team leader with excellent negotiation, communication and people skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter / Problem solver / Self-disciplined
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence to work independently, safely, and travel to remote gravel pits
  • On-site construction experience would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) would be considered an asset
