Job description

At SMS Equipment, our AHS Technical Support Engineer - In Trainingis responsible for providing application-level support to both internal and external stakeholders. The AHS Technical Support Engineer - In Trainingwill collaborate with the factory development team and field technicians to resolve system issues in a timely manner and support continuous improvement by analyzing system performance and making recommendations on operational improvements to customer as well as technical system improvements to the factory. This position is in Acheson, AB.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain in depth technical knowledge on the FrontRunner system as it relates to the server application and on-board AHT control systems.
  • Work closely with factory support and development teams to identify and resolve any technical problems that might arise during the deployment of software.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of system problems by understanding and utilizing engineering standards, technical manuals, engineering prints and electronic test tooling.
  • Prepare technical issue reports based on feedback from technical specialists and customer, offers recommendations adding to the future improvement of the equipment.
  • Assist SMS branches and customers with commissioning and support of the FrontRunner application.
  • Use technical ticketing systems and regular reporting back to the OEM’s field development centre.
  • Oversee the gathering and documentation of failure information pertaining to, operational and /or application related issues and design deficiencies.
  • Provide product reliability, customer concerns and potential opportunity feedback to various departments within the company and OEMs.
  • Analyze program needs, and work with OEM to provide solutions to users using a problem-solving approach.
  • Monitor equipment updates and assist in explanation of Flash News releases.
  • Input data to Zendesk and AHA.
  • Assist in Technical Service Information submissions (TSI)
  • Assist with internal technical training where appropriate.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Degree in Engineering and/or a professional Engineer on Engineer in Training designation paired with a minimum of 2 years experience in Mining Engineering. Additional requirements include:

  • Sound understanding of principles associated within the mining environment and fleet haulage systems.
  • Strong passion and aptitude for systems data analysis and using data to drive system performance through KPIs and reporting tools.
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic environment with focus on client and customer relations.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as an aptitude for logical thinking and problem solving.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and have a wide-ranging working knowledge of computer systems.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, focuses on continuous improvement and best practices pertaining to the Company’s products and services, enhancing expertise, performance, and bottom-line productivity.
  • Have the foundational knowledge and capability to use one or more programming languages.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
