Position Overview
VAA is now recruiting for a casual Airport Maintenance Specialist 1 to join our team. The Airport Maintenance Specialist 1 performs a variety of tasks related to the upkeep and maintenance of groundside and airside operations. Winter season may include working irregular hours on short notice, in inclement conditions, as part of VAA’s snow removal operations.
This is an “on call” Union position reporting to the Airport Maintenance Supervisor.
Education & Experience
Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of one year of related experience. Minimum BC Class 5 Driver’s licence is required. Preference may be given to applicants holding a Class 3 BC Driver's license with air brake endorsement and candidates with previous airport and/or snow removal experience.
Within two (2) months of hire, Airport Maintenance Specialist 1 must obtain the following certification:
- WHMIS certificate
- AVOP D/A
- Forklift Certificate
The Airport Maintenance Specialist 1 must also possess and/or demonstrate:
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with internal and external customers.
- Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member.
- Organized with the ability to work under deadlines with conflicting demands.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use a wide variety of software packages.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to operate weed-eaters, power washers, mowers and similar equipment.
- Personal suitability to work in emergency, hazardous (i.e. confined space, heights) or inclement weather situations.
VAA is part of the federally regulated air transportation sector and employees must abide by any potential future federally mandated health measures (e.g. COVID-19 vaccination/booster shots).
As a condition of employment, employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC*)
