Position Summary

Thales is looking for an AJISS Senior Program Engineer, based in Victoria, BC, to support the AJISS Service Delivery team with the management of defects for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS).

As the AJISS Senior Program Engineer you will also support the AJISS Engineering and Supportability Team with various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or survey on board the ships while alongside.

Key Areas of Responsibility

As the AJISS Senior Program Engineer you will report to the Engineering Services Lead and liaise with the Service Delivery group to provide timely support with Defects resolution.

Assigned tasks are to be completed in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines, contracted time and cost requirements. This includes but is not limited to performing the following:

  • Provide direction on way forward during Corrective Maintenance.
  • Conduct technical investigation into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.
  • Prepare documented work scopes associated with Defect investigation/resolution, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers.
  • Managing (planning, organizing, leading and controlling) the work by coordinating with other Thales staff (Mechanical, Electrical and Hull Engineering and Naval Architecture staff) and/or Subcontractors to achieve the agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities.
  • Provision of technical advice to enable systems and equipment to be correctly operated or maintained.
  • Contribute to detailed engineering tasks, including:
    • Problem Investigation.
    • Requirements analysis.
    • Design calculations.
    • Support Obsolescence assessments.
    • Performance improvement investigations.
    • Material compatibility investigation.
    • Review of equipment/system maintenance documentation.
    • Failure analysis.
    • Risk and hazard assessments.

The AJISS Senior Program Engineer will be supported on site by Thales technical specialists.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Engineering degree in mechanical engineering or naval architecture.
  • P.Eng in British Columbia.
  • Ten years or more of maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge with ability to make technical decisions.

Special Position Requirements

  • Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships.
  • Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.
  • Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided).

Pay Transparency

The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is 98,786.80 -183,461.20 CAD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, provincial, and federal laws.
