What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• Lead and conduct economic studies, analyses, and projects to assess the nature, scope, and impact of air policy and climate issues.
• Develop in-depth reports and analyses, present and evaluate policy options and recommendations to senior management, and coordinate/present policy documentation.
• Conduct impact analysis of policy/program changes, develop environmental and socio-economic cost/benefit estimates, and validate results against estimates.
• Conduct econometric and financial forecasting to estimate the environmental, financial, and socio-economic impact of proposed policies and programs.
• Provide expert advice on methodologies, quantitative analysis, and statistical and econometric techniques for evaluating proposed policy and program initiatives.
• Coordinate and prepare various materials and analyses, including briefing notes, correspondence, policy options papers, and presentations.
• Negotiate agreements and consult on joint projects, issues, policies, and programs with air policy and climate change stakeholders.
• Engage with economic professionals in other ministries, government, private sector, and non-government organizations in stakeholder consultations.

How do I qualify?

Technical and Legislation Knowledge

• You have knowledge of theories, principles and methodologies of econometric forecasting and econometric modelling development and application in a policy and planning environment;
• You have knowledge of research, economic and statistical analysis principles and techniques, including economic and financial modelling;
• You have knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of environmental management, and general knowledge of environmental issues and trends.
• You have computer and software program experience to research and prepare materials.

Analytical, Conceptual, and Problem-Solving Skills;

• You can lead economic research involving the analysis of multiple sources of data, and consideration of qualitative (e.g. socio-economic) and quantitative factors.
• You have knowledge to plan research studies or projects that involve economic modelling and forecasting.
• You can assess and evaluate the environmental and financial impact of proposed policy changes, recommend changes and appropriate responses, and modify changes to mitigate potential risks.

Project Management Skills

• You can implement and evaluate economic studies/analysis projects to further provincial strategic environmental policy and climate change objectives.
• You can determine appropriate research methodologies, quantitative analysis, and statistical and econometric techniques to be used in evaluating proposed policy and program initiatives.
• You can develop and provide policy recommendations and economic impact analyses for review by senior management.
• You have knowledge of the administration of assigned project budgets and manage contracts and agreements with external consultants and stakeholders.
• You can provide leadership to project teams and recommend research and evaluation methodologies and policy options.

Interpersonal and Influencing Skills

• You have consultation and partnership-building skills to establish key stakeholder linkages across the OPS and in federal and provincial jurisdictions, the private sector and scientific and academic communities,
• You can support government policy and program initiatives.
• You have presentations and persuasion skills to provide policy advice and to explain/advocate for policy and/or program recommendations.
