About Us
The Land and Resources I&IT Cluster (LRC) is one of eight clusters in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) formed to provide groups of ministry partners with all their information technology needs. LRC partners with the Ministries of: Indigenous Affairs; Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Environment, Conservation and Parks; Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry; and Energy.
LRC works with program areas in each of the ministries to understand their business needs and develop technology solutions that enable business transformation and digital public service goals and objectives. Technology solutions range from new business applications and digital services to office productivity tools, from information management expertise to telecommunications support.
The LRC works closely with other clusters and the Office of the Corporate Chief Information Officer (OCCIO) within the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery to enable shared technology solutions (development tools) and common infrastructure for the benefit of all ministries.
About the Branch
The Digital Solutions Branch (DSB) collaborates with cluster partner ministries to co-design, deliver and support digital solutions, providing leadership in emerging technologies and innovative delivery techniques to enable modern government services.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Senior Solutions Designer, you will:
• Provide technical expertise and lead delivery of advanced and complex digital services in all phases including planning, design, implementation and maintenance in a multi-platform environment.
• Design and implement cloud native solutions that are cost-effective, high-performing, reliable and simple to use in various cloud environments to accelerate business and cluster's digital transformation.
• Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to high-performing teams of technical and business professionals in fast-pace work environment with agile approaches to deliver multiple mission critical applications on budget and on time.
• Perform research on emerging technologies, conduct proof of concept (POCs), and make recommendations for adoption of new technologies, best practices, and toolsets etc. to ensure organizational flexibility and competitive advantage for delivering cost effective state-of-the art digital solutions.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps for enterprise-level product visions by identifying priorities and opportunities for alignment while managing technical debt.
• Provide strategic advice to management and I&IT architects to ensure that architectures and solution design approaches and blueprints are supportable.

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills and Expertise

You have:
• Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience of end-to-end solution including design, development, deployment, and integration for large and complex enterprise-wide solutions in various clouds such as Azure and/or AWS
• Experience in design and developing APIs and microservices, as well as integration with other applications.
• Experience in designing and developing cloud native applications using, but not limited to, Java Scripts/Angular/React, JSON, Java, Springboot, MEAN stack, HTML/SASS, .NET, and others
• Proven knowledge of databases such as Oracle, Azure SQL, PostgresSQL and NoSQL database, and skills in data driven design/development and related technologies
• Experience with code version control systems (e.g. Git), DevOps practices, cloud delivery / deployment models, virtualization, and container solutions (e.g. docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience in cloud migration of moving SOA/J2EE apps to microservice apps, which would be a great plus
• Experience in analyzing systems requirements, architecting, designing and implementing IT solutions that conform to IT standards and best practices

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You have proven analytical skill in solving difficult issues in a complex environment.
• You have conceptual, analytical, evaluation, and problem-solving skills to develop technical design features and alternatives and ensure the effective operation of hardware and software platforms, IT security, and quality control systems.

Technical Leadership and Project Management Skills:

• You have technical leadership and project management skills to lead agile IT projects, develop and assess cost estimates, advise and lead teams of project staff and external consultants, and ensure project deliverables are met within specific parameters.
• You have experience in undertaking and leading parts of complex projects of different sizes, ensuring alignment to project plans and best practice, and incorporating user-centered design and agile methodologies.

Communication and Consultation Skills:

• You have proven communication and consultation skills to work with project staff, clients and external stakeholders, explain technical solutions to IT and non-technical internal and external stakeholders, and prepare reports.
