Job description

Vancouver Island University is hiring for the role of Annual Giving Coordinator. This full-time, permanent position will join the highly functioning team in the VIU Foundation and External Relations office.

 

Reporting to the Advancement Manager, Philanthropy, the Annual Giving Coordinator is responsible for the execution of the multi-channel Annual Giving program for Vancouver Island University (VIU) Foundation. As a valued member of the External Relations Office, the Annual Giving Coordinator will contribute to the achievement of VIU Foundation's fundraising objectives by assisting in the development and implementation of Annual Giving strategies to acquire, retain and grow our Annual Giving program and donor base of Annual Giving donors.

 

No two days for the Annual Giving Coordinator will be the same, the responsibilities are varied and include:

  • Coordinating the execution of the Annual Giving program and activities, including the renewal of annually funded scholarships, awards, and bursaries.
  • Delivering fundraising revenue through Annual Giving campaigns and appeals.
  • Assisting in the development of Annual Giving campaign goals and objectives.
  • Writing, producing, and distributing Annual Giving campaign appeals, communications, and materials.
  • Delivering fundraising revenue for student scholarships, awards, and bursaries.
  • Generating queries and lists for campaign execution and performance analysis.
  • Tracking, analyzing, and reporting on the effectiveness of the Annual Giving program and activities.
  • Monitoring campaign results and metrics to ensure targets and goals are met.
  • Collaborating with the Alumni and Donor Relations Team on donor stewardship communications and alumni giving.
  • Collaborating with the Marketing and Communications team on campaign messaging and design.
  • Working with Data Coordinator to ensure donor and gift information is captured correctly in the fundraising database and ensuring donor tax receipts are delivered correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Working with other members of the External Relations Office to further the goals of the department, including contributing to fundraising plans and ongoing process improvements.
  • Working with Financial Aid Team to administer funding for student scholarships, awards, and bursaries.
  • Maintaining awareness of current trends and best practices in higher education fundraising and participating in ongoing professional development.
  • Maintaining a high standard of ethics, integrity, and commitment to the goals of the External Relations Office in accordance with its mission, vision, and values, and as articulated in the Donor Bill of Rights.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Minimum three years of fundraising experience in a development office or not-for-profit setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Required Knowledge:

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent planning, organization, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, writing and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Solution oriented with a strong ability to find creative solutions.

  • Ability to handle confidential material and handle sensitive situations diplomatically and professionally
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) experience.
  • Experience with fundraising databases (VIU uses Raiser's Edge NXT),
