Reporting to the Centrally Assigned Principal, the Aquatic Lead will develop, coordinate, supervise and evaluate district wide Aquatic Programs that will maximize growth and development for students in social, cognitive, emotional and physical areas.
The Aquatic Lead will:
• Collaborate with the Centrally Assigned Principal and other Aquatic Program staff to develop, coordinate and implement Aquatic Programs and events;
• Supervise and lead a team of aquatic staff;
• Coordinate and/or deliver professional development programs for staff; and
• Liaise with Principals, Teachers, Health and Physical Education staff, Employee Services staff, Facilities Services staff, representatives of the City of Toronto and other stakeholders to provide Aquatic Programs.

Summary of Duties:
• Lead and develop a team of aquatic staff to support school Aquatic Programs;
• Responsible for interviewing, selection, training, coaching, and supervision of staff;
• Support Principals through monitoring of performance standards and advise on corrective action as required;
• Provide orientation to staff and coordinate and/or deliver professional development programs for staff;
• Ensure staff are in compliance with aquatic qualifications, training, safety and emergency procedures;
• Schedule staff according to aquatic program needs ensuring adequate coverage for each scheduled shift;
• Coordinate special events (e.g., Annual Swim Meet and Swim to Survive) including preparation and communicating appropriate information, liaising with other departments; reviewing rental agreements, booking facilities and providing information for the processing of payments;
• Liaise with Employee Services regarding the placement of staff and other staffing matters;
• Review and monitor the Aquatics Programs’ effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement;
• Work collaboratively with Principals, aquatic staff, teachers, support staff and resource staff;
• Maintain records and statistical information, including confidential student and staff information where required;
• Assist in monitoring the aquatic program budget including tracking expenses;
• Coordinate/assist with administrative processes, including payroll and attendance processing
and tracking for aquatic staff;
• Prepare various reports (e.g., budget, program, statistical, staff) for the Centrally Assigned
Principal;
• Support grievance and arbitration processes including assisting with research, gathering and
preparation of information and attending meetings as required;
• Liaise with maintenance and facilities staff regarding pool functioning issues such as pool
closures and pool chemistry; assist with purchasing of pool equipment as required;
• Participate in meetings as required, including sub-committee meetings between the TDSB and
City of Toronto with respect to joint use of pools;
• Ensure compliance with Ontario Health Regulations and all other relevant legislation, TDSB
related policies, procedures, and protocols procedures and emergency response plans;
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, best practices, and new program developments;
• Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and
implementation of programs and services; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Two year Community College Diploma in a related field (e.g. Recreation and Leisure Services)
with three years progressively responsible related experience supporting an aquatic program
in an educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Experience in aquatic program design and development;
• Proven supervisory experience with strong leadership and team building skills;
• Knowledge of exceptionalities (e.g., physical, mobility, behavioural, health, etc.);
• Understanding and working knowledge of related Board policies, procedures and collective
agreement provisions;
• Knowledge of related legislation (e.g., Ontario Health Regulations, Occupational Health and
Safety Act, etc.);
• Knowledge of safety standard and regulations related to the work;
• Strong organizational and problem skills;
• Ability to assist in managing a budget;
• Strong oral and written communication skills including presentation, group facilitation, training
and report writing skills;
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, stakeholders, etc.;
• Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office (databases, spreadsheet, email
etc); and
• Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity.

Certification Required:
Must hold current:
• Lifesaving Society Instructor Certificate or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certificate or
Y.M.C.A. Instructor Certificate;
• National Lifeguard Services Lifeguard Certificate; and
• Standard First Aid plus CPR C Certificate

Special Requirements:
• Provision of own vehicle for Board Business;
• Requires regular travel across the TDSB;
• Must be able to physically assist students as required;
• Requires ability to move/carry equipment for the program (e.g., lane markers, tables,
lifejackets, diving rings, etc.)

Work Year: 11 months
Location: 140 Borough Drive (Hybrid Work Eligible)
