Reporting to a designated Manager, the Assistant Project Supervisor, Architectural/Structural will be responsible for the supervision of district wide construction projects in designated discipline (Architectural/Structural).
The Assistant Project Supervisor, Architectural/Structural will:
• Work closely with the Project Supervisor to ensure that established schedules and approved budgets are maintained;
• Supervise and provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team; and
• Ensure safety procedures are in place in accordance with engineering standards and building.

Summary of Duties:
➢ Supervise district wide construction projects in designated discipline i.e. Architectural/Structural;
➢ Establish client requirements through meetings with Principals and Superintendents;
➢ Liaise with Project Supervisors, Facility Team Leaders, Maintenance Team Leaders and trade staff;
➢ Ensure acceptable standards are developed, standardized and followed;
➢ Optimize the use of allocated resources, including the planning, delivery and evaluation of services;
➢ Administer the acquisition, distribution and use of resources;
➢ Supervise the scheduling and completion work utilizing SAP PS system and SAP PM work order management;
➢ Supervise and lead a multi-disciplinary team;
➢ Participate in interviews and make recommendations in the hiring of staff;
➢ Prepare performance reviews and evaluations, provide solutions to enhance performance, and determine disciplinary action where appropriate;
➢ Work closely with the Project Supervisor to resolve labour relations related issues, in accordance with collective agreement provisions, policies and procedures, and in consultation with Employee Services;
➢ Plan staffing needs and requirements to ensure acceptable service levels;
➢ Maintain appropriate standards of service;
➢ Promote continuous improvement in service delivery processes;
➢ Ensure applicable work processes are documented and followed and inspect work to ensure outcomes meet stated objectives;
➢ Prepare and communicate construction project schedule reports to various stakeholders;
➢ Attend and participate in meetings and establish networks for information sharing;
➢ Negotiate service levels, resources and commitment;
➢ Manage project budget, including the monitoring of expenditures, investigating variances and the analysis monthly expenditure reports;
➢ Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation including the Health and Safety Act, WSIB;
➢ Monitor and recommend training programs for staff;
➢ Ensure licenses are up to date for in-house staff;
➢ Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
➢ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
➢ Three year community college diploma in Architectural/Structural Engineering technology with five years of relevant experience within a large multi-site, multi-union environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
➢ Strong construction project management skills;
➢ Experience evaluating construction documents and monitoring costs;
➢ Demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
➢ Conflict resolution and mediation skills;
➢ Understanding and working knowledge of related policies, procedures and collective agreement provisions, government regulations, legislation and building codes;
➢ Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders, outside contractors, suppliers, manufacturers and Union representatives;
➢ Experience administering contracts with contractors;
➢ Successful supervisory experience including leadership, mentoring and team building skills;
➢ Strong organization and problem solving skills;
➢ Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and
➢ Proficient computer skills, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, work order management system (SAP PM,) Auto Cad, email, Internet.

Special Requirements:
➢ Provision of own vehicle for Board business.
➢ Requires regular travel across the TDSB.
➢ Available on call evenings and weekends to respond to issues and emergency situations
➢ Requires wearing safety equipment (e.g., safety shoes, hard hats) when visiting construction sites.

Asset:
➢ Membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist;
