As an Arts and Culture Strategist, you will lead the development and implementation of policies, strategies, projects and programs which support the Arts and Culture sector. You will work extensively across the corporation and with Council to identify and promote the development of cultural opportunities, identify and resolve gaps in policy and process, and deliver on corporately led strategic initiatives. Primary duties include:
  • Develop and maintain complex relationships and partnerships internally across the corporation and externally as the single point of contact on behalf of Arts and Culture
  • Act as a counsel and resource on risks and issues to; identify, anticipate and prioritize emerging issues; analyze the impacts and develop appropriate mitigation strategies to address and resolve the concerns.
  • Actively support and advocate for the Arts and Culture sector in Calgary. This includes providing strategic leadership as the single point of contact and by leading the development and implementation of multi-faceted policies, complex projects and diverse committees with a wide range of internal and external parties.
  • Make recommendations to Senior Leadership including the General Managers Office, Directors Offices and Offices of the Councillors related to ongoing project updates, trending issues, risks and opportunities. Prepare and present reports, briefings, and presentations.
  • Manage Arts & Culture resources, including consultants and full-time contractors, funding and civic assets.
 
Qualifications 
  • A Degree in Arts, Fine Arts, Science, Commerce or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in policy development, relationship management, strategy development and project management are required.
  • Masters in a related discipline will be considered an asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 360, Microsoft Teams, Adobe, and Webmail is required.
  • Access to personal vehicle for business use and valid class 5 license will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in the Arts and Culture sector or non profit sector will be considered asset.
  • Lived experience in the Chinese community would be considered an asset.
  • Practical experience with diverse types of governance models, capital and program management and client negotiation experience will be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, and strategic planning skills are essential for the success in this role.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $44.20 - 59.09 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
