Job Opportunity: Asset Controller

Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. Who You Are

At Mikisew Cree First Nation, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Assets Controller. The ideal candidate is someone who shares our commitment to community well-being and sustainable development, bringing a unique blend of expertise in asset management, procurement, and project coordination.

Please note that this position is based in Fort MacMurray or Fort Chipewyan and will require periodic travel.

What You Will Be Doing

Management of Assets:

  • Assisting in the management of outsourcing and service arrangements that support the delivery of goods and services.
  • Liaising with other departments and or external resources to gather, maintain and dispose of assets.
  • Computing expiration of various assets and create timelines for efficient use and development.
  • Maintaining or improving levels of service.
  • Preparing regular reports for senior leadership, highlighting key financial metrics and providing actionable insights.
  • Developing and/or maintaining a comprehensive inventory of all Nation assets across departments.

Project Management and Reporting:

  • Provide regular updates to the Director, Assets, regarding ongoing activities.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly reports to the Director, Assets, providing comprehensive overview of ongoing projects, initiatives, and other pertinent matters.

Risk Management

  • Assist in identifying and assessing risks associated with asset portfolios and implement strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum diploma in Business Management or related post-secondary diploma specializing in Finance, Procurement, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Three years experience in asset management, procurement, planning, managing service contracts, operations, and project management. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in building strong rapport and relationship management with First Nations communities and partners would be considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Possess a valid Class 5 AB driver’s license and own or access to a vehicle.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Fort Chipewyan as required.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and applications for data management and reporting. Knowledge of community resources and agencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities and situations.
  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.

Benefits and Compensation Highlights

  • The salary range for this role is 65k to 90k yearly, dependent on education and experience.
  • Full-time position with typical office hours consisting of 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday however, flexibility will be required for occasional work on evenings and weekends (with encouragement and support for a work-life balance)
  • The position is ideally located in Fort Chipewyan, however specific location and arrangements are negotiable for the right candidate.
