The Assistant Cook will be responsible for cleaning, maintenance, budgeting, and other related cooking duties. The Assistant Cook will prepare and present reports and information as requested. The OKIB Assistant Cook will manage and distribute resources effectively and will ensure that all meals are provided in a nutritional, caring, and respectful way in keeping with all relevant policies and procedures Okanagan Indian Band. SUPPORTS NEEDED Coordination of menu planning on a weekly basis according to Canada’s Food Guide. Adapt menus for children who have allergies. Prepare lunch and two snacks daily for the children in the Centre. Ensure meals and baked goods are wholesome, nutritious, and homemade i.e. no processed, packaged foods or mixes, no junk foods, use fresh produce when available etc. Confirm that food purchased is nutritious and of a high quality. Ensure continuous proper storage of food and materials. Monitoring all food safe temperatures. Observe strict Health and Safety Standards. Follow and maintain good safety and hygiene practices. Comply with the requirements of the Health Inspector. Ensure that children are not permitted in the kitchen except under the supervision of Staff. Appliances are to be used correctly and maintained. Disinfect all counters and appliances daily. Load and unload dishwasher as needed. Always maintain kitchen in a neat and tidy manner. Hazardous materials and products are to be stored and locked in a safe place. Assist with administration periodically when required. Supervise volunteers. Perform other related duties as required. All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services.Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.Education Grade 12 minimum Certificate in Cook training FoodSafe Certification Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain WHMIS Certificate Experience Two years’ experience in kitchen management (meal planning, stock keeping and purchasing) Knowledge of the educational aspects of nutrition as they relate to the development of the children. Knowledge of the safe preparation of food and its storage Experience working with First Nations communities. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal Applicants as per section 41 of the Human Rights Code
