SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is one of Canada’s leading hotel management companies and manages a large portfolio of full-service, focused service and extended stay hotels across Canada. The company manages independent hotels and hotels operating under major franchise brands, such as Marriott, and Hilton.

Reporting to the Manager of Food and Beverage Services, the Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting in the management of the hotel restaurant and bar as well as the Banquet department. The Food & Beverage departmental objective is to achieve revenue, profit, and customer satisfaction goals.

What You Will Do:

· Oversee Operations:

- In the outlet, greet and seat guests; assist with service and/or bussing as necessary to ensure superior guest satisfaction.

- Ensure that all banquet service details are executed.

- Assist in ensuring events are on time.

- Make adjustments as needed and relay information to the appropriate persons.

- Maintain the highest quality of service related to all events.

- Maintain warm, hospitable guest relations in all guest contacts

- Follow through on guest requests and/or complaints

- Coordinate activities and use of all assigned personnel and resources.

- Supervise all aspects of banquet and catering facilities set up and clean up.

- Compile serving schedule and coordinate food services during functions.

- Maintain adequate inventories of banquet service supplies.

- Ensure equipment is properly cleaned and maintained

- Reinforce a high standard of sanitation, cleanliness and food safety standards.

- Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are being met at all times.

- Assist in the operation of the POS system, including the inputting and changing of menu items.

- Ensure superior cleanliness and quality is maintained in the outlet and the banquet meeting rooms

Oversee Staffing Operations:

- Monitor schedule daily ensuring staffing levels are maintained and are consistent with business levels

- Assist with scheduling as well as completion and balancing of payroll.

- Understand key financial data as required for budgeting and forecasting.

- Ensure financial reporting is accurate including billing and payroll

- Prepare and review orders and complete monthly food and beverage inventories.

Participate in the development of merchandizing and marketing of all Food & Beverage Services

- Meet or exceed budgeted goals in sales and profit margins of food and beverage department.

- Relay suggestions and feedback about menu items to the manager

- Work closely with Culinary team and Sales team to organize and coordinate events.

Promote team growth and development:

- Assist with the recruitment, selection, training and development of outlet team members to ensure high standards are maintained

- Participate in the onboarding and training process for new associates

- Maintain and monitor standard of punctuality, uniform presentation and personal hygiene

- Provide and support a fun, up-beat yet professional environment where associates are trained to provide exceptional quality beverage and table service and receive regular performance feedback.

- Build harmonious and effective working relationship with other departments.

- Assist with regular performance planning and review meetings for associates.

- Attend and participate in meetings; contribute new ideas and initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other tasks related to these general duties as assigned.

Your Preferred Education & Qualifications:

· 2 or more years Food & Beverage experience in a management/supervisory position

· Previous supervisory experience is required.

· Diploma in hospitality and experience working in unionized environments are assets.

· Experience in hiring, scheduling, controlling costs and managing within a budget.

· Demonstrated understanding of restaurant and banquet operations

· Knowledge of wine service is an asset

· Responsible Beverage Certificate

· Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

Position Details: Full-time

· There are physical components to the job which involve standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and bending and/or lifting up to 40 lbs. as well as being on your feet for long periods of time.

· Shift Scheduling: Mornings, afternoons, and evenings, any day
