Job description

Are you a Youth Care leader looking to make an impact on a new program? Shift is seeking a leader to assist and support the management of a new satellite residential treatment program opening in Vernon, B.C. Working in partnership with The Maples adolescent treatment center in Coquitlam, this five bed treatment home for youth aged 12-18 is located in a rural area just on the edge of town and will blend the best of outdoor and cultural experiences with modern clinical care practices. You will support and help oversee the day-to-day operations of this short-stay program in collaboration with head office in Halifax and Maples staff in British Columbia.

Primary Duties

As Assistant Program Manager, you will support the day-to-day operations and administration of one of our residential care and treatment programs in British Columbia by working on-site as a member of the Shift leadership team. As Assistant Program Manager, you will balance multiple competing priorities including program and client needs, staff supervision, client intakes and discharges, administration and reporting, programming and cultural experiences, crisis responses and day-to-day management. On-call duties are also a part of your overall responsibility. Specific Duties

As Assistant Program Manager you will report directly to the Program Manager and support the Youth residential care program in Vernon. While not a comprehensive list, here are the key duties of the role

· Implement programs and services at the facility in accordance with the service model and guiding principles.

· Lead crisis interventions and de-escalation processes.

· Ensure all appointments and obligations are being met.

· Provide real time supervision, training and guidance to less experienced staff.

· Ensure all reporting requirements are met

· Act as a role model amongst the team

· Create and maintain community and cultural connections

· Be involved in the lives of the clients as an active participant, role model and advocate

· Participate in rotating on-call support schedule

You may need to take on acting Program Manager duties from time to time as directed by the Program Manager. Some of these duties may include:

· Support the recruitment and selection process for staff positions

· Assist in preparing staff schedules and reviewing payroll

· Ensure protocols are being followed by the team

· Perform and monitor daily reporting

· Implementation of structured recreational and leisure time activities

· Communicate regularly with the head office to discuss status of clients and program

· Provide an overview of the program to new clients and their families

· Assist in the facilitation of training and professional development opportunities to enhance staff’s professional capacity

· Knowledge of Prince George community and resources is an asset

· Ability to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary, integrated team environment

· Ability to function effectively and maintain clear boundaries in a residential treatment environment serving clients with complex needs

Qualifications

· Post secondary education in Child & Youth Care or related degree.

· Minimum 2 years’ experience in Child & Youth services.

· Experience in the delivery of holistic, culturally safe, treatment programming considered an asset.

· Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and communicate effectively with a team.

· An understanding about Indigenous worldviews, cultures and values.

· Advanced empathic listening and communication skills (verbal and non-verbal).

· The ability to ensure client confidentiality and maintain a non-judgmental attitude.

· The ability to function effectively and maintain clear boundaries in a residential treatment

environment serving clients with complex needs

· Ability to participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary, integrated team environment.

· First Aid and CPR

· MANDT, Mental Health First Aid, and ASIST certifications are assets.

· Satisfactory child protection and criminal records check including a vulnerable sector check.

· Valid (restriction free) Class 5 Driver’s License
