Function Overview
The Corporate Finance Advisory Function exists to help generate, integrate and deliver thoughtful capital market solutions to Scotiabank's Global Banking & Markets corporate clients. The Function partners with Corporate & Investment Banking sector teams, Debt Capital Markets, and other product areas to provide in-depth analysis, drive idea generation, strengthen financing recommendations and help identify ancillary business opportunities. Focus areas include: debt capacity analysis, capital structure optimization to achieve financial and/or credit rating objectives, rating agency process facilitation and outcome management for inaugural and existing issuers. The Function has been building its team to deliver on its global mandate.

Position Highlights
Associate Directors in Investment Banking enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they will be involved in a broad range of transactions. The job is responsible for supporting senior members of the team in the generation of new business opportunities, successfully executing mandates, as well as responsibility for coaching and developing junior team members.

With a limited hierarchy of professionals and a small project team approach, Associates Directors have ample opportunity for career growth and development. On any given project, you will interact with other departments of the firm such as Corporate Banking, Investment Banking sector teams, Mergers & Acquisitions, Debt Capital Markets, and Equity Capital Markets, gaining knowledge and understanding of both Investment Banking and the capital markets.


What You'll Do:

  • Actively support the Managing Directors and Directors with origination efforts with a focus on ensuring strong execution, as well as coordinate with other areas of Scotiabank to deliver multi-product pitches and offerings
  • Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of corporate clients
  • Completion of credit rating analysis including scenario analysis using external credit rating methodologies
  • Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives
  • Deliver high-quality presentations and well thought-out analysis
  • Facilitate the execution of ratings advisory mandates including supporting drafting of rating agency presentations and marketing materials for transactions, liaising the credit rating agencies, cross-functional deal team members, and external clients
  • Assist and drive a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Scotiabank relationships, systems, and knowledge
  • Demonstrates inclusive leadership by coaching team members, in addition to acting in a mentorship capacity to promote continuous growth and development
  • Leads juniors in managing all workflow for origination or execution, including delegations of work appropriately to ensure completion of the work is efficient

What You'll Bring:

  • Ideal candidate will possess a relevant Bachelor Degree in Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology, or equivalent qualification
  • Considered an asset to have completed Masters-level/MBA education (although not essential) and a CFA
  • 5-8 years of corporate and/or Investment Banking or leveraged finance experience. Experience at a rating agency will also be considered.
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work, excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines and perform effectively in a team environment
  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations and a keen desire to learn new concepts
  • Independent thinker and proven ability to make decisions

Work Arrangement:

  • This role will ultimately require periodic travel, within Canada and International.
  • This position is currently a hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work 3-4 days a week in the office (minimum). Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
