What is the opportunity?

As an Associate on the Portfolio Management team for RBC’s Asset Based Lending (“ABL”) business, you will be responsible for supporting the Portfolio Management team with their respective assigned portfolios of diversified ABL clients that roll into one of RBC’s Corporate Client Group and Canadian Banking books.

Your ability to successfully partner with internal RBC stakeholders to align RBC’s risk appetite with the needs of the client, will lead to your success in the role as you contribute to the overall growth of the ABL portfolio by supporting the team as they work towards retaining existing clients within RBC by providing sound advice, analysis and recommendations. 

What will you do?

Support Portfolio Managers in their management of all aspects of their assigned ABL portfolio including:

  • Assisting with credit renewals, amendments, annual reviews, portfolio reviews and credit documentation (CCMS, loan advances, legal documentation etc.).

  • Helping coordinate all other client credit needs.

  • Supporting the management of accounts by analyzing financial & collateral reports to ensure negative trends are identified early & measures taken to ensure RBC’s exposure is adequately protected.

  • Helping to oversee and monitor loan advances and collateral reporting to ensure that Clients are in compliance of reporting requirements and financial covenants.

  • Helping to proactively identify issues and opportunities during the account management process to deliver advice and solutions tailored to meet client needs that are paired with appropriate recommendations to Risk Management.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • 2+ years previous banking experience with relationship management, structuring/writing credit

  • Able to demonstrate strong verbal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal RBC partners

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment

  • Self-starter that is able to work independently and effectively prioritize various transactions and demands from partners internally and externally

  • Demonstrated financial/business acumen and experience in conducting financial/risk analysis to assess and structure banking solutions inclusive of building financial and borrowing availability models.

Nice to Have

  • MBA and/or professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA), or a post-graduate degree with a focus in business, accounting, economics, mathematics or other quantitative field.

  • Familiarity with RBC credit processes and loan documentation

  • French reading/writing/communication skills.
