Volunteer position title: Bead LoanProgram Assistant

Province/Territory: Nova Scotia

Volunteer opportunity conditions:

  • Minimum age: 16 year or older
  • Minimum volunteer hours /period: 3-4 hours a week on Thursdays 1:00pm to 4:30pm or Friday 8:30 to 12:00pm.
  • Specific requirements: Must be comfortable using a computer.

The Bed Loan Program Teamis looking for volunteers to be part of their mission.The program provides loans of home-use hospital beds to Nova Scotia residents with delivery, pick up and installation provided. The Bed Loan Program Assistant Volunteer provides administrative support like answering the phone and scheduling bed loans and delivery.

As a volunteer in this role, you will:

  • Prepare client loan packages. Primary task.
  • Connect with clients verify referral requests, and work with bed loan technicians and clients to schedule the loaning and returning of hospital beds.
  • Make delivery reminder calls to clients and provide general phone support.
  • Ensure the integrity of data collection and recording of all call/ client trackers and statistical information.
  • Contributes to a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Complete other duties as required.

  • Desire to provide exceptional customer service to Bed Loan Program clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including working in a busy environment.
  • Ability to empathize with client and client family concerns and to deliver service with compassion.
  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • An understanding and compassion for an aging population, including community resource knowledge and resourcing.
  • Data entry experience is an asset.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently, and to collaborate with others.Full training is provided, however volunteers should be comfortable with using a computer, and have good written and conversational English. Other languages are considered an asset.
