Who We Are

The SFU Indigenous Languages Program (INLP) is a continuation of the award-winning SFU Kamloops Program from which Indigenous Studies programs, Indigenous language proficiency programs and language courses were originally developed and offered. The mission of INLP and its Community Academic Outreach programs has been the collective and individual empowerment of Indigenous peoples through education, taking into account First Nations' own knowledge systems, histories, ways of being and learning. INLP works with speech communities and in partnership with Indigenous organizations on language revitalization initiatives and to enable Indigenous language learning off-campus in First Nations communities in BC and the Yukon.

About the Role

The INLP Budget Assistant position is a critical role to the operations as INLP provides high quality support to Indigenous partners and their students and serves as financial liaison. The financial work for INLP is complex and intricate with non-standard financial processes and timelines which are also unique to this program while serving Indigenous students living in remote communities to access courses offered through INLP. The Budget Assistant is responsible for providing support in Indigenous financial and budget processes and priorities. In addition, supports INLP students processes and INLP community engagement initiatives in accordance with University policies and procedures and protocols pertaining to INLP and Indigenous partnering communities in respectful and constructive working relationships. The position is responsible for maintaining FNEP community-related financial services; student enrollment and tracking, fees as well as admissions and related support services and serves a contact person of support on INLP.

The ideal candidate will be able to thrive in a busy and dynamic work environment with multiple objectives and concurrent deadlines. Attention to detail would be a strong asset to this position.
