Reporting to the Manager, Innovation, Business & Resilience , the Business Strategist delivers strategic advice and recommendations, high-quality documentation, analytical and financial expertise to senior management, City council, and a wide variety of internal and external partners. The Business Strategist directs and leads the Business Planning and Budget preparation within the Business Unit (BU), including overseeing business plan and budget development, implementation, and reporting. The position provides strategic guidance and consulting advice on financial and funding strategies, performance measure development, risk management, and benchmark research to support service lines, BU and divisional priorities. Primary Duties include:
- Work with Corporate teams in identifying, scoping and implementing opportunities related to BU structure, processes, performance measures and reporting. Propose strategic solutions to the BU leadership to guide the decision-making process.
- Develop BU short- and long-term business plans and budget for the BU. Monitor compliance, develop strategies, actions and performance measures.
- Analyze current operational processes, performance measures, structures, and services to identify opportunities for enhancements.
- Coordinate, consolidate and analyze reports, including design methodologies and tools to streamline and enhance reporting efficiency and effectiveness. Design facilitation sessions for various audiences.
- Plan, monitor, evaluate and track capital projects to support PMs in a Stage Gating process. Lead Project Management Quality Assurance process for BU.
- Provide Business Unit strategic planning, design, and implementation leadership strategic sessions and employee events.
- A degree in Public Administration, Commerce, Business Administration or related field with at least 5 years of experience with financial analysis and financial strategy including business case development, business planning strategy and analysis, economic analysis, developing business strategies and budgets to achieve organizational objectives in large organizations with diverse businesses, political and business acumen.
- Program and project management experience is required.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize, and the ability to build consensus among partners is preferred.
