Cashier/Sales Associate - ReStore
The Cashier/Sales Associate is responsible for providing quality customer service to Restore customers and donors in a retail setting. This is a permanent, full-time position that interacts daily with corporate and individual donors and store customers, requiring someone that is professional, courteous and knowledgeable. This position reports directly to the Assistant Manager with accountability to the ReStore Management team to achieve customer service standards and accurate POS operation. Experience working in a retail setting with POS systems and merchandizing experience is desired.
We offer excellent retail hours from Monday – Saturday, 9-5 pm (closed Sundays and statutory holidays), a comprehensive health benefits, paid sick days and a flexible work schedule. Our Organization:
Habitat for Humanity Red Deer Region is a registered charity dedicated to helping families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. Since 1994, we have built 50 homes in Central Alberta in partnership with families, volunteers and community partners. We operate a retail social enterprise, the ReStore, that accepts donations of building materials and quality household items for resale to the public. Proceeds from our ReStore support Habitat Red Deer operations. We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, community minded individual to join our busy ReStore team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Cashier & Sales:
- Fulfill a lead role in operating a computerized POS system
- Perform daily cash closing and opening procedures efficiently and accurately
- Assist in training other staff members on all aspects of cashier duties
- Record & collect sales data for tracking and reporting
- Complete accurate documentation for all donations requiring tax receipting.
- Merchandising organizing retail floor on an ongoing basis as needed.
Customer & Donor Relations:
- Develop positive relationships with corporate and individual donors and store customers
- Communicate effectively with customers & donors on home building materials, household items and home renovation projects
- Respond positively and proactively to customer inquiries and needs
- Resolving customer complaints and difficult situations as they arise
- Fill in for donations pick-up drivers as needed.
Donations & Merchandising:
- Develop attractive and creative product displays and merchandising approaches
- Determine the suitability and acceptance of donated products
- Ensure adherence to pricing and sales policies
- Sort and prepare donated products to be displayed on the sales floor.
Safety & Standards:
- Adhere to applicable provincial and organizational legislation included OHS policy
- Ensure compliance with HFHRD’s Health & Safety & ReStore policies
- Assist in completing all incident & near miss reports accurately and on a timely basis.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma with some post secondary education in retail, sales or related field
- Minimum one-year retail experience and/or experience working in a customer service-focused setting
- Strong communication skills with ability to engage customers & donors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Knowledge of building materials, residential construction & home renovations
- Experience in operating a POS system and back-end reporting functions
- Physically fit – able to lift and move large, heavy objects up to 50 lbs
- Able to work a flexible work schedule including Saturdays.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Operator’s license; first aid certification an asset
- Experience with e-commerce sites specifically Shopify is an asset
- Must be health & safety conscious and adhere to all safety procedures and protocols.
