Health Information Technology Services (HITS) is a service based business unit delivering healthcare IT solutions to Hamilton Health Sciences and various healthcare partners. The HITS team uses technical expertise to offer practical, sustainable and high quality solutions to the Hospital, in support of HHS achieving our vision of Best Care for All.

As part of HHS’ Digital Health Plan, the Hospital has embarked upon an exciting transformational journey with the introduction of an enterprise-wide Health Information System using the Epic HIS system. This HIS initiative and associated process redesign has begun and is playing a significant foundational role as a catalyst for improved patient care at HHS. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, influential leader who has the ability to thrive in a complex environment.


Position Summary


The Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) provides clinical and administrative leadership and direction in the planning, delivery, and implementation of information systems used in the clinical environment. The CNIO is responsible for leading nursing and allied health adoption of clinical information technologies and systems, coordinating CI/ICT projects to address nursing/allied health needs and works to implement process changes that promote best practices in patient care. The CNIO is a nursing leader with both clinical and healthcare management experience who has knowledge and skill in managing change along with strategic outlook and drive to lead change. The CNIO is skilled in articulating, and at times translating, clinical needs (both nursing and allied health) to the technical and informatics teams. The CNIO works collaboratively with other Executive leaders across the Hospital to lead the adoption of new technologies and clinical practice changes.

This role will be based primarily out of HITS’ main office at 293 Wellington Street, which is an Administrative building, however at times there will be a requirement to travel to alternate sites based on operational needs.


Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday days with flexibility to manage operational needs

Qualifications

  • Nursing degree (Undergraduate degree)
  • Minimum 10 years of Clinical experience
  • Minimum 5 years Clinical Operations experience
  • 2-5 years Leadership experience
  • 1-2 years Informatics/Technical experience
  • A demonstrated understanding of major trends in healthcare
  • Experience as a nursing leader in an acute care hospitals
  • Established track record of accomplishments in management, particularly involving successful, collaborative work with clinical leadership
  • Experience in leading transformational change
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical information systems implementation and their use.
  • Experience with implementation of evidence based practice models in clinical settings
  • An individual who can lead in a complex environment, has a high tolerance for ambiguity and can work successfully in a matrix management model
  • A leader with systems/process review experience
