Child and Youth Care Workers are responsible for the care, support and supervision of young people in alternate care. They engage in relational practice in the life space to create healing environments and promote growth and development. Specific duties and responsibilities include implementing a structured daily routine; engaging young people in social, recreational, and educational activities; teaching life skills and emotional regulation skills; working collaboratively with family members; de-escalating crisis situations and utilizing crisis as an opportunity to promote change.
Qualifications: The successful applicant(s) must be creative, innovative, self-aware, confident, flexible, and energetic. A diploma/degree in Child and Youth Care, social work or a related field, experience working with young people and families with complex needs, or an equivalent combination of the two is required. Applicants must have experience successfully de-escalating volatile and aggressive behaviour. Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed care and intervention is a necessity.
The position also requires a clear Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check from the RNC or RCMP; Child Protection Record Check; First Aid/CPR certification; valid Driver’s license and use of a private vehicle while at work. Successful candidates must submit valid proof of residency.
