Job Summary

The Child & Youth Programs Attendant serves the mission of the YMCA of Lethbridge at the Cor Van Raay YMCA by supporting programming including, childminding, indoor play, family play programs, Youth Programs, community events and PD Day camps while providing exceptional customer service. The main goals of this position are:

1. Ensuring participants are following proper safety guidelines

2. Implementing programs to support child development through play and implementing recreational and social programming for young people

3. Ensuring adherence to the highest level of Child Protection

· YMCA of Lethbridge members and program participants

Nature & Scope

The Child & Youth Programs Attendant will support facility operations and programming, the responsibilities for this position are, but not limited to:

· Engaging with children, youth and families during programs while ensuring participants are following YMCA of Lethbridge policy and procedures

· Supporting the set-up and take down of facility spaces and equipment

· Implementing new and ongoing Child and Youth Programs, as well as through collaborative programs with local community organizations with direction from the Child & Youth Programs Manager

· Demonstrating a commitment to Child and Youth development through best practices

· Collaborating as a team member, communicating effectively with other employees, volunteers, and participants

· Monitoring the general safety and maintenance of amenities and associated areas, and reporting concerns forward to a member of the Child & Family Development Coordinator

· Ensuring YMCA policies and procedures are always being met and maintained

· Providing an enjoyable experience to users while building positive relationships with members, patrons, volunteers, and other YMCA staff

· Demonstrating ‘SAM Standards’ daily throughout the facility

· Attending all required YMCA training, recertifications and in-service trainings

Physical/Special Demands

· This position involves prolonged standing

· This position involves the ability to lift 20 kg

Qualifications and Experience

· Interest and/or education in Education, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or other Human Services

· Experience in a Child and Youth serving and/or recreation program (considered an asset)

· Current Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C Certifications

· Evidence of an acceptable Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

· Evidence of an acceptable Child Intervention Check

· Three professional references required

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Weekends as needed

Licence/Certification:

  • Intermediate First Aid Certification (preferred)
  • CPR Level C (preferred)
