Job Title: Childcare Assistant Supervisor

Job Location: Seaforth, Ontario

Salary:

Hours Per Week: 37.5 hours weekly (Varies to support operational needs)

Job Description: Childcare Assistant Supervisor (Contract Position)

Position Summary:

This position follows the specific responsibilities outlined in the Registered Early Childhood Educator job description and additional administrative duties to assist the Director in supporting operational needs of the childcare.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director regarding all in program duties and responsibilities as a programming educator, and as a centre designate in the Director's absence.

Responsibilities:

  • Abide by all regulations set out in the Childcare and Early Years Act, 2014
  • Follow all Seaforth Co-operative Children's Centre Policies and Procedures
  • Conducts themselves in accordance with all guidelines set out by the College of Early

Childhood Educators code of ethics and standards of practice.

  • Ministry contact in the Director's absence or while working in a Centre Designate capacity.
  • Perform daily classroom audits on programming and implementation related to quality assurance.
  • Complete pre-licensing checklists on all program off-sites monthly.
  • Attend workshops, training conferences and staff meetings for the purpose of professional development as required.
  • Deliver daily classroom program development and implementation of emergent childcare programs on and/or off site, following the "How does Learning Happen Pedagogy" in a Leadership capacity.
  • Mentoring staff, volunteers and students through interactions and examples to function as a support and resource to families and staff.
  • Maintain effective communication and positive rapport with Seaforth Co-operative Children's Centre Board of Directors, families, and community contacts.
  • Consults with the Executive Director where significant impacts to the program or childcare may be involved (example: breaches of policy, media, concerns with inspection reports, serious occurrences, complaints or staffing concerns and performance issues)
  • Models and implements positive behaviour management techniques.
  • Works as an active member of the childcare team.
  • Supports professionalism within the centre and program.
  • Develops a warm and caring relationship with children and families.
  • Accept, offer, and act upon positive and constructive feedback in a mature and respectful manner.
  • Supports operational needs by stepping into program as required.

Coaching and Development: Commit to assisting participants, volunteers, staff and self in continuous professional learning and development.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Are able to work quickly and efficiently despite ambiguity, adjust to parent and child needs, respond to unforeseen opportunities and issues with confidence, integrates the latest information as it becomes available.

Communication: Communicates in a thorough, clear, and timely manner and supports information sharing and goal achievement across the childcare.

Initiative: Does the right thing at the right time without being asked. The ability to be initiative taking within the organizational strategies of priorities. This manifests itself in areas of programming, staff relationships, time management, and professional development.

Team Building: The ability to work together to achieve a certain goal and task through group efforts. This affects staff relations, parent relations, program delivery.

Problem Solving: Identifies an issue, gathers, and processes relevant information, producing solutions, selecting appropriate responses, and implementing them.

Concern for Health and Safety: Acknowledges and understands how to manage and educate others about risk and harm reduction.

Leadership: Guides, motivates, and inspires others to act towards desired outcomes.

Tolerance for Ambiguity: Functions effectively in situations of less than perfect or incomplete information.

Mandatory Education and Certification Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR level "C"
  • Clean Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector

Required Skills:

  • Strong child guidance skills and experience
  • Strong program development and delivery skills
  • Strong mentorship skills
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience with children in a variety of age groups from three months to 12 years of age
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Solid effective communication and organizational skills
