The Engineer In Training (EIT) position offers an opportunity for recent Civil Engineering graduates to kickstart their career. Responsibilities include performing basic engineering design and document control, supporting licensed engineers on geotechnical and hydrotechnical work, assisting surveyors and drafters, conducting lab tests, and coordinating equipment maintenance. Effective communication with clients, team members, and site personnel is essential. Additionally, responsibilities encompass project cost estimation, on-site quality control during construction, proposal writing, and budget management.
HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE (RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Perform design under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer
- Familiarize with transportation standards and perform traffic designs.
- Support engineers and managers in the field and office
- Conduct lab tests and coordinate equipment maintenance
- Participate in developing tools for efficient team performance
- Coordinate project meetings and manage document control
- Review drawings and designs across departments
- Prepare reports for approval by the Principal Engineer
- Communicate with clients and project execution team as necessary
- Perform quantity takeoffs and project progress reports
- Participate In Training and complete assigned projects within allotted timeframes
- Assist in preparing project proposals, cost estimations, and quotes
- Visit construction sites to collect necessary data and review QA/QC work
- Invoice clients upon scope completion and maintain client relations
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? (REQUIREMENTS)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Eligible for EIT designation with APEGA
- Knowledge and expertise on Civil Engineering lab tests is required
- Knowledge of geosynthetics and/or transportation engineering is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with geosynthetics is an asset
- Willingness to work beyond regular hours and travel to remote locations
- Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory 5-year abstract
