The Department of Physiology & Pharmacology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Data Analyst. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The lab studies the infant human microbiome and how it relates to immune and metabolic diseases in children.

Work varies from routine to complex. Stressors include the variation and volume of work, multiple priorities, numerous and often simultaneous deadlines. Stress level from mild to high. Work in an environment of continuous change, shift in priorities and must be able to multitask. Multiple deadlines on a daily basis need to be met, which are highly stressful and has a high volume of workload.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ensures that work assigned is completed as required
  • Ensure that primary purposes of the position are being fulfilled as required
  • Ensures that immediate supervisor is kept informed of activities and progress of work
  • Share knowledge and expertise to improve team work
  • Keep up-to-date with advances in field of statistics/biostatics
  • Provides biostatistics consultations and carries out statistical analyses for clinical and basic science research projects
  • Curates data from Clinical Databases and experimental spreadsheets
  • Prepares didactic material on selected statistical approaches aimed to teach others on these methods
  • Aids in the preparation of research manuscripts and other material for scientific dissemination
  • Pleasantly and respectfully interacts with co-workers, supervisor and members of the University Community
  • Manages own time effectively to accomplish tasks within deadlines

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Statistics or equivalent required, Masters degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience
  • Courses in database management, regression analysis, multivariate methods, linear models, repeated measures analysis, sample calculation analysis, etc
  • Working expertise in R, including ability to formulate and modify scripts to run statistical analyses, and to generate R-based plots and charts with results. (Proficiency in ggplot 2 is an asset.)
  • Proficiency in a Windows environment: Knowledge of MS office
  • Ability to recommend appropriate statistical approaches for given scientific questions and projects
  • Ability to interpret/explain results from data analyses in the context of the research project
  • Effective communication of statistical ideas (oral and written) with health researchers
  • Ability to multitask and great organizational skills
  • Ability to manage and determine priorities
  • Strong analytical reasoning skills and decision making skills are essential
