StudentAid BC (SABC) assists more than 200,000 eligible students and borrowers in B.C. with the cost of their post-secondary education and training through various financial assistance programs, such as student loans, grants, bursaries and scholarships. SABC is responsible for setting the strategic direction of student financial assistance within B.C., including representing the Province in federal-provincial/territorial policy negotiations to maximize federal funding for the benefit of B.C. students; and the development and management of student aid programs totalling more than $700M in combined provincial and federal funding for demand driven programs.
The StudentAid BC Branch is also responsible for the assessment of SABC applications and eligibility, and the subsequent disbursement of funds to students and institutions. In addition to providing direct service to B.C. Students, SABC collaborates with other programs and branches, both within the Ministry and across the BC Public Service, and other jurisdictions, on the development of program policies and program delivery.
The SABC Senior Support Officer (Sr. SO) supports the Student Support Team by managing and coordinating a variety of student financial assistance functions related to client service delivery and application assessment. The Sr. SO is also a resource for their colleagues, other Student Support Officers, for technical knowledge and in handling the escalation of difficult and/or contentious client issues.
Job Requirements:
  • Secondary School graduation (Grade 12) or equivalent (i.e., GED).
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working in a customer service environment.
  • Minimum six (6) months experience providing client service in a high volume, fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience interpreting and applying policy and/or legislation.
  • Minimum six (6) months experience using Microsoft office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook, at an intermediate or higher level.

Preference may be given to applicants with two (2) or more or more of the following:
  • Post-secondary education and/or training in finance and/or experience in a financial work environment.
  • Experience delivering a program providing financial benefits to clients.
  • Experience working in a call centre environment.
  • Experience working in a governmental environment.
  • Experience with database applications
