The Company

We are Boost CPA - a young & growing online CPA firm specializing in outsourced accounting department services for small- to mid-size organizations. We integrate with our client teams and provide professional bookkeeping, Controller, and CFO services to organizations that would otherwise not have the benefit of a full accounting team on their roster. Our team is growing once more, and we are seeking an experienced Part-Time Cloud Bookkeeper to grow with us!

You will work in a firm focused on helping small- to mid-sized organizations improve their processes, take accounting stress off their minds, and gain valuable insights into their financial performance. All of this is possible because of you and the team's accurate & timely work.

The Role

This remote position will focus on:

• updating client financials on a weekly basis using QBO & Dext predominantly,
• performing payroll for review & processing,
• AP & AR reconciliations & support with these cycles
• being a main point of client communication, and helping to plan & implement process improvement,
• other standard full-cycle accounting duties.

Our excellent Controller will work with you and support you, and you will always have the bookkeeping team to lean on for questions and support. The company is based in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, but our team and clients are spread-out around BC.

This position would suit someone with previous cloud bookkeeping experience and a proven ability to use the various tools and integrations with accounting software. We mainly use Quickbooks Online and Dext (formerly Receipt Bank), but you may also find yourself using tools such as Xero, Plooto, Float, Wagepoint, Payworks, Loom, or others as well. Experience in these specific platforms is an asset, but not required. What is required however, is a natural curiosity and willingness to learn! Skills can be taught, curiosity cannot!

We are looking for someone who is diligent, accountable, and able to manage their own workload; we won’t micromanage you or your schedule. The position is considered a 2 day per week position to start – 15 hours/week – based on the immediate client load for the role. However, it most certainly can grow in scale for the right candidate as the firm grows organically and brings on new clients. Tell us in your application what your "ideal" work week would be like in terms of hours/week on average, as we like to try and facilitate staff preferences in this regard as we grow.

While we will confirm to you 15 hours per week for this role (to start), we won’t tell you what days or times you have to complete your tasks in, as long as relevant deadlines are met (i.e. for processing client payroll, closing out the month in a reasonable timeframe, etc.). Plenty of flexibility to arrange your workdays to best suit your life's needs and the client’s workflows, as discussed below.

For the right candidate, this position could expand into additional weekly hours and client engagements, onboarding and supervising future new hires, growing compensation and responsibilities, etc. But if you’d prefer to stay at or around 15 hours/week instead, that’s ok too! We respect that and have no problem building out our team around talented & dedicated part-time staff.

• Hourly wage $26 – $28 per hour, at 15 hours/week, based on experience.
• Annual profit-sharing pool to be shared with other team members
• Customizable schedule to fit your life. All we ask is that client deadlines are met (especially for processing client payroll!), and that you manage your workload to stay on top of things
• Broadly speaking, we look for most of your working time to fall within the typical working hours of our clients in BC, which is to say ~8am – 5pm, so that we can be responsive to client requests and so that we are “there” when our clients are working.

• Has cloud bookkeeping experience, and/or an accounting certificate or diploma. Extra points for experience in a multi-client environment.
• Is organized, diligent, and unafraid of a challenge – but also not afraid to ask for help when needed
• Is reasonably tech savvy and interested in ongoing learning. We always want to hear new ideas for how to do things better!
• Is open to flexible working and managing their own time and client expectations.
• Is excited about the opportunity to work with and learn about clients in a variety of Industries – hospitality, construction, professional services, not for profit, etc.
